November was quick, but everyone was waiting for Christmas. I, for one loved Christmas and New Years eve, behind Halloween, of course. For the Christmas break, mum and dad were taking us somewhere like Scotland or Paris to see our relatives. I was just happy to be away from Hogwarts for awhile. I loved it there, but I haven't been able to download any music recently, and I always have to keep my I-pod charged because it gets a low battery quickly at Hogwarts. Thank goodness for battery-powered chargers.
On the day of leaving, I went around, saying by to all my friends. The only people I hadn't said bye to was Lexy and the twins. The twins were going back home and celebrating Christmas with their family and Bill. Lexy, from what I understand, is going to her uncle's.
We all got on the train, and sat and talked about nonsense till the train stopped at the station. We got off, past the barriers, and saw our parents. We all hugged (but except the twins and Lee didn't, for they said it's not manly to do. Rolls eyes), and left.
"So," Mum asked. "How was your first time at Hogwarts?" She asked. I rolled my eyes.
"Mum," Lee said. "You made us send you a letter every other day. How could you not no what it was like for us?"
"The letters aren't the same as hearing it." She said. We both rolled our eyes and told her everything, even though it was all in the letters.
"Well, everything sounds so exciting." She said. "Lee, you and the twins didn't do any pranks or tricks, did you?"
"No, mum." He said.
"Brittany?" She asked. Lee gave me a side-ways glance.
"They didn't do any pranks, mum." I said. Lee grinned.
"That's a relief." She said. After two hours of talking, I some how dozed off.
"Brittany, we're here." I heard Lee say. I slowly opened my eyes and looked around. We were parked outside a hotel, and it was snowing outside. Hard.
"Mum and dad are signing in to the hotel. We have to stay the night somewhere, because of the snow." He said.
"Well, that's really… stupid." I said.
"Why do you say that?" Lee said, stretching.
"Can't we just appariate where ever it is we're supposed to go?" I asked.
"We're already here, though." He said, stretching again. When he did that, I heard popping and snapping. I made a face. I hate when people do that.
"Where, exactly are we?" I asked.
"Wales." He said. I looked back outside. Just then, mum and dad jogged back to the van.
"Oh, good. You're awake, Brittany. I thought I was going to have to wake you." Dad said. "Hurry and put your snow coat on so we can go to the hotel. Tomorrow, we'll go straight to Aunt Olivia's." Lee and I quickly slipped on our coats, got our bags, and jumped out the van.
The snow went right to my thighs, and my jeans weren't the warmest (http://www.polyvore.com/brittany_jordans_winter_vacation_outfit/set?id=35380578) We made our way to the hotel, where a bell boy was waiting. He took our bags, and we made our way to the elevator.
When we got to our rooms, mum and dad said that Lee and I would have to share a room together. We weren't to happy about that.
"But-"
"No buts."
"But-"
"No. Buts."
"But we-"
"NO BUTS."
"Fine!" I said, putting my stuff on the biggest bed.
"No. That's my bed." Lee said, throwing my stuff off the bed.
"No it's not." I said, picking up my bag, throwing his on the other side of the room, and plopping on the bed.
"I don't think so." He said, starting to push me off the bed.
"You two have fun." Dad said as they went into their separate rooms.
BY the morning, I ended up on the bed, and Lee slept on the floor, looking defeated. I woke up, stretched, then remembered that today was Christmas.
"Lee! Wake up!" I yelled, practically jumping on him.
"Ow! What was that about?!" He yelled, rolling over and rubbing his side.
"Today is Christmas." I said, walking towards mum and dad's door.
"Oh yeah!" He says, following behind me. I opened the door, expecting to hear Dad's loud snoring. Instead, we found their room empty. We exchanged looks of confusion.
"Well, it's about time you two woke up." We suddenly heard dad say behind us. We both jumped, but turned around.
"We were about to wake you." Mum said. "Hurry and put on your clothes so we can go to Aunt Olivia's."
We quickly threw on something, packed, and were back on the road in no time.
Luckily, the roads were already plowed, meaning a some-what smooth drive. By the time we got to aunt Olivia's, it was already 10:30.
Lee and I both jumped out of the van, and walked/slid to the front door of the flat. We knocked twice, and Aunt Olivia opened the door.
I would of just called Aunt Olivia Olivia, because she was only 26, but still acted like a 16 year old. She was a part time auror, un-married, and looked almost like my mum, except shorter. She always had crazy hair colors and looks for almost everyday. Today, her hair was neon green. She gave us giant hugs, and told us to go inside and start opening presents.
We took off our coats and boots, then practically ran to the giant tree, which had like, a mountain of gifts.
"Wait." Lee said, grabbing me by the arm. "I think we should wait a moment."
"Why?" I asked, eyeing the biggest box.
"because, it would be rude to open them without the- SIKE!" He said, snatching the biggest box. I huffed a little, then stopped.
"I didn't want the biggest one, anyway." I said.
"Yeah, okay." He said, separating our gifts from each other.
"I'm serious. I was actually looking forward for Luke's present." I said. Lee snorted, and I understood why. Luke was Olivia's boyfriend, who was indeed in love with her, but not the best when it came to bonding with kids. He never knew what to get for us, so we ended up with socks or some ghastly hat.
Last month, though, he had surprised me by sending me a letter asking what Olivia likes the most, since, and I quote, "You know her like the back of your own hand. Maybe even better." So, I gave him a small list of Olivia's favorite restaurants, food, and other things like that. So when opened the small box from Luke, I was expecting socks or something of that sorts. Not a red and gold jeweled necklace.
Lee took one look at it, and forgot about everything else.
"Why do you think he gave it to you?" He asked.
"I helped him out." Is all I say.
The next days went by quickly, and when it was New Years Eve, and it was time to announce our resolutions, it was something like this.
Aunt Olivia: "I'm going to stop drinking a lot of alcohol like I already do." takes a gulp of firewhiskey.
Dad: "I'm not going to stress over small stuff. Lee, put that cup on a coaster."
Mum: "I'm not going to yell anymore." everyone rolls eyes
Lee: "I will not get into a lot of trouble anymore."
Me. "And I shall not get angry over the stupid things that happen."
We all blow a couple noise makers, then Lee and I fall asleep almost instantly.
