Dear Jessica,
Hello! How are you? I'm having a wonderful time here, though Petunia isn't speaking to me anymore(not that I'm complaining). How is your mum and step-dad? Tell Lenny and Richard I said hi! I wish you were here, because it's so boring here without you, seeing as how Severus and I aren't talking. He keeps on sending me owls and flowers and leaving notes everywhere. I want to forgive him, I really do, but it's not that easy. Also, I saw you and Sirius talking at the train station. Are you two okay? When Sirius walked away, he looked upset, and I called your name, but you walked away before I could reach you. Tell me in the letter you send back, so write A.S.A.P!
Love,
Lily
Dear Jess,
Are you okay? It's been two weeks, and you haven't been sending any post back. Is your family okay, or did someone pass away, because if so, I'll be there in a heartbeat. You still haven't told me what happened with you and Sirius. I'm starting to get worried for you. Please write back A.S.A.P.
Starting to get worried,
Lily
Dear Jess,
What's wrong? Please tell me! I'm starting to really worry about you! Please write back!
Stressing out,
Lily
These were a few of the many letters I received from Lily. Every time I got one, I would start to write, then stop and just sit there, pondering over why Sirius broke up with me till I couldn't think anymore. Even though he had given good reasons, I still couldn't figure out why.
I was so busy being depressed, I barely paid attention to my family. My mom was starting to get sick again, like always, but I wasn't spending any time with her. Whenever she asked me to come here, I would make up some lame excuse and quickly walk to my room.
One day when I was actually feeling good enough to go out for fresh air since a month ago, I went to our Jewish Temple, and what do you know, the rabbi started talking about forgiving in forgetting. I couldn't help but snort.
On my brother Richard's Bar Mitzvah, my whole family was in a flurry, looking around for things, getting dressed up, looking for bigger bags. I changed into my regular blue dress and low wedges and got a regular black purse, not wanting to get all dressed up, unlike my mom and step-dad, who were pulling out the expensive stuff.
After the Ceremony, it was time for the real celebrating. While the others were dancing, laughing, and eating, I stood by the door, pretending to greet people as they made their way in. I really wanted to be happy for Rich, but I couldn't bring myself to pull on a good, reliable smile.
At one point, I wasn't even paying attention, or looking around, so I didn't notice when he walked over.
"Hey, Jessica." He said, making me jump. I turned and looked, and it took me a moment to recognize him.
"Hi, Max." I said. Max has been my friend almost since birth. He's sixteen, same as I, but three months ahead. He has a blond, almost albino hair color, a tan-ish complexion, freckles, a dazzling smile, and amazing blue eyes. You'd never believe he was Jewish till you've been around him long enough. Strangely though, I've never been attracted to him, though he had asked me out a couple times before I went to Hogwarts. After the school switch, we talked sometimes.
"How's your day going today?" He asked. I raised a eyebrow. Max doesn't ask how's your day going unless he wants something.
"Good, I guess." I sighed out anyway. Just then did I notice his Yamaka was barely on his head.
"You're Yamaka isn't on right." I muttered as I stood on my tip-toes and fixed it for him.
"Thanks." He said. "Lila would usually fix it for me." Blushing a little on the last part.
"So, your dating Lila now?" I asked, a little surprised.
"Was." He corrected. "Are you dating anyone?" Wrong question. I looked down, eyes suddenly brimming with tears.
"Not anymore." I said, my voice cracking a little. "He-broke up with me right before leaving the train station."
"Well, why would he do that?" Max asked. I just shrugged, and glanced up to see him studying me. "Do you want to go for a walk?" He suddenly asked. I just shrugged again, and he led me out of the giant building.
When we had gotten to a fountain, he turned to me and said, "Now talk." And I spilled out my guts. I love how good of a listener Max is. He would nod or grunt or sometimes even gasp at the right places, and he kept eye contact with me the whole time, even when tears started spilling out. When I finished, we both stood there in silence for a moment, than he said,
"Well, screw Sirius Black!" He said it so simply, yet it made me gasp in shock, though I had no idea why. I should've agreed with Max, but the words said aloud, or even thought in my head had me shocked.
"What? He broke your heart didn't he?" Max asked. I nod. "Made you depressed?" Nod. "Made you cry more than you have in your life?" Nod. "And did it heartlessly, did he not?" Nod. "Then, screw Sirius Black! Come on Jess, say it with me!" I opened my mouth, but all that came out was, "I can't." Max sighed, then said,
"You used to be fun." I stopped feeling sad immediately.
"I am fun." I said.
"Not fun enough to say it."
"I'm not ready."
"Baby." I looked at him, a smile threatening to emerge.
"I am not."
"Kindergartener." I couldn't believe it, but I was smiling at the same time.
"No, you are." I said, smiling.
"No, I'm a sixteen year old." He said with a air of authority. I made a noise of disbelief.
"You could of tricked me. You look like a A biseleh
"Yeah okay. But as for Sirius, well, as Grandma Fran says, A nahr bleibt a nahr (A fool remains a fool), and Sirius was a fool." He said.
"Yeah, I guess he was." I said, as we walked back to the temple, chattering away. It was nice to have a guy friend who thinks like a girl.
Just for the record, Max is a real boy, but I have a crush on the real Max. He looks like the description, Awena_Evenstar knows! She doesn't like his twin sister, though. Any way, I don't exactly know how this will turn out, but I'll figure something out.
